We Care

that indigenous peoples are respected for their cultures, values, and languages; supported to define and achieve maximum success locally and globally.

Normalize Indigenous Knowledge

Pacific Islanders as a diverse indigenous peoples know their history, languages, cultures, traditions, and values better than anyone else; no one can explain these better than themselves. Pacific Focused accompanies organizational leaders in their quest to become effective trainers, practitioners, and community organizers of their people utilizing best practices, indigenous framework, and resources.

Change Deficit Narrative

Pacific Islanders are descendants of courageous warriors and navigators from proud indigenous peoples with strong connections to their cultures and traditions. Yet, the diaspora struggles to overcome a deficit narrative fueled by ignorance and misinformation in schools, workplaces, and through the media. We intend to change the deficit narrative through research, facts, and a re-validation of indigenous practices.

Transform Communities

Pacific Islanders living abroad are experiencing the loss of their indigenous cultures, languages, and traditions. Without core identities, youth are easily influenced negatively by the dominant deficit narrative in the media, discriminatory practices in schools, misinformation in social and mainstream media. Pacific Focused helps transform communities into safe and supportive environments for success.
Pacific Focused aspires to work collaboratively to advance the success of the Pacific Islander diaspora who are the newest Pacific Islander immigrants to the State of Hawaiʻi. We are humbled by the difficult mission ahead, but inspired by the peopleʻs resolve to build a better live for their children in a foreign land while fighting to preserve their indigenous values and cultures.

“Whatever we produce must not be a version of our existing reality, which is largely a creation of imperialism; it must be different, and of our own making. We should not forget that human reality is human creation. If we fail to create our own, someone else will do it for us by default.” – Epeli Hau’ofa
